What are Bulk Blooms?
Bulk blooms arrive to our shop straight from our growers. Most bulk blooms come packed in boxes requiring you to open the boxes, cut the stems, and hydrate in water before using them in floral designs.
If you are interested in a DIY project, or need a large quantity of flowers for an event or for resale, bulk blooms may be a good choice for you. However, there is time and work necessary to make bulk blooms ready to use or gift.
Are Bulk Blooms right for me?
If you are an experienced floral designer and know how to receive, condition, and care for flowers then you know that you can save money purchasing bulk boxed flowers.
If you are planning to design flowers for an event, we recommend practicing well in advance. We definitely do not recommend your very first attempt at floral design be at your wedding.
If you are wanting a large quantity of single stem flowers for a fundraising sale or charitable giveaway, and you have a team of people that can help you to get the flowers into water in advance of your sale, Bulk Blooms might be a great choice for you!
I want to sell or give away hundreds (or thousands) or flowers. Are Bulk Blooms the right choice?
If you are wanting a large quantity of single stem flowers for a fundraising sale or charitable giveaway, and you have a team of people that can help you to get the flowers into water in advance of your sale, Bulk Blooms are a great choice for you!
The most common flowers we see for these types of events are carnations, roses, and gerber daisies.
When should I receive bulk blooms for my DIY project or event?
At WildFlower, we receive most flowers 4-5 days before an event or 1-2 full days before we plan to design with them. Bulk blooms require a full 12-24 hours to hydrate after their journey. Additional time may be required for the flowers to open up into their most beautiful form.
I ordered my Bulk Blooms! What should I do?
Opening the Box:
Carefully open the box using a pair of scissors or a box cutter, being cautious not to damage the flowers inside.
Gently remove any protective packaging, such as paper or plastic sleeves around the flowers.
Cutting the Stems:
Fill a clean vase or bucket with fresh, cool water.
Using sharp, clean scissors or a floral knife, cut each stem at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption.
Remove any leaves that will be below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.
Conditioning the Flowers:
Immediately place the cut stems into the prepared water.
Allow the flowers to hydrate for at least 4-6 hours, preferably overnight, in a cool, dark place. This helps them recover from transit and ensures they are fully hydrated.
Storing the Flowers:
Keep the flowers in a cool location away from direct sunlight, drafts, and ripening fruits (which release ethylene gas that can speed up wilting).
Change the water every 1-2 days and recut the stems each time to maintain optimal hydration.
Add flower food to the water, if provided, to extend the freshness of the flowers.
By following these steps, you’ll ensure your flowers are beautifully conditioned and ready for display or further arrangement. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to us!
